Hollywood comes to the Hawke’s Bay in this multi-award-winning renovation. Davcon Construction has pulled off a striking transformation of a hillside home, scooping the National Outdoor Living Excellence Award in the process.

This honour comes hard on the heels of three regional awards, including Regional Supreme Winner. It’s no surprise when views of the new pool house and outdoor living zones rival those of the Pacific.

The project involved an expansive multi-level outdoor area with a new pavilion, infinity pool, spa, courtyard, conversation pit with a dazzling glass-encased fire, and a second alfresco seating area in front of an Escea fireplace.

The 70sqm pavilion, clad in cedar and aluminium, has tongue-and-groove cedar interior walls, a negative-detailed ceiling and a hidden bathroom wall. Recessed into the ceiling are infrared heaters. As if these weren’t enough, this remarkable building also has a kitchen with appliances tucked behind more cedar and a living room with a recessed TV and gas fire. Steel, pivoted, double-glazed doors invite in enviable views of the sea, sky and the sumptuous surroundings.

The judges heaped praise on the builders responsible for the metamorphosis. The new cabana, they said, was the true heart of the home and was seamlessly linked to the opulent new landscaping. These outdoor areas, they added, were also carefully planned to flow between each another. Adding to the luxury ambience was feature lighting.
